[Q] How to convert a PowerPoint figure into .EPS format with preview?
[A] Step 1. Print that slide to a .pdf file using Adobe Acrobat PDF writer or Acrobat Distiller; Step 2. Open that .pdf file in Acrobat and crop it; Step3. Export as an .eps file with preview.(05/30/2002)

[Q] What are the best figure formats for Word?
[A] Based on experience with PTMC02_load.doc paper:
- Matlab Figures: .eps with preview (Be sure to use a PS printer to print the .doc file; or print .doc to .pdf first than print the hard copy)
- PowerPoint Figures: paste as a "picture" is relatively stable
- Photos: .jpg files are OK.

Trouble Shooting Log

Problem 070402:
Connection problem of 5B32 isolators in connection box \\Berkeley
Symptom:    ACMotor torque reading significantly smaller than its actual value, which can be deducted either from the ABB panel reading (% of motor max torque, approx. 121 N-m) or from the product of upstream pressure (MPa) and pump displacement (ml/rad). 
Temporary Workaround:    Try adjust the sensor gain inside WinCon to compensate the signal loss.
Diagnosis:    
1. Suspected hidden torque consumption, such as scraping sensor. Ruled out after sensor inspection;
2. Motor torque reading changes when shake the connection box;
3. Connection box opened, isolators found loosely plugged.
Solution:    Tightened the mounting screw on two 5B32s and one 5B39. (by Analog Devices)
           

Problem 070102a:
Rainbow cable connection mistake
Symptom:    Rainbow cable inside connection box overheat; WinCon does not build correctly.
Location:    \\Berkely
Cause of Problem:    Rainbow cable plugged to the connection board in the wrong direction.
Solution:     There is no error-proof notch on the rainbow cable plug!! Make sure it plugs to the gray ribbon cable and the connection board both in the right direction!

Problem 070102b
Registry number of board PCI DAS1200 inside pci12pp.h mismatches the hardware
Symptom:    WinCon builds correctly but will not start, asking for code regeneration and download. 
Location:     \\Berkeley
Cause of Problem:     pci12pp.h copied from another machine writing over the correct file on \\Berkeley
Solution:    Recheck the Vendor and Part ID in "regedit" (See PCI Setup Guide for Details), and confirm the setting inside pci12pp.h

Problem 070102c
Gray ribbon cable bad connection between PCI board and connection box
Symptom:    No DA outputs from CH0 and CH1 of DDA08 board
Location:    \\Urbana
Cause of Problem:    Loose connection of the gray ribbon cable (Pin 1-50) to the connection box. There is no mechanical lock or latch!!
Solution:     Make sure the the cable plugged in securely. 
Notes:    A note on the connection box panel says DA0@DDA08 was broken on 09/21/2000. This channel is confirmed functional after reconnecting the cable.

Problem 062902
AC Motor Speed Sensor Failure
Symptom:    No speed reading from AC Motor speed sensor. Red indicator on the speed sensor driver remains on even when the motor is running.
Cause of Problem:    Bad connection between the pickup unit (about $80/ea) and the preamplifier (about $60/ea). 
Solution:    Cut the connection and re-solder it.
